- Foundation stone of Dhubri Phulbari bridge over Brahmaputra laid by PM Modi On 18th February 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge over Brahmapurta River. The 19 km long 4-lane bridge from Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya will improve connectivity in Barak Valley and will reduce distance between Meghalaya and Assam is about 250 kilometers by road. Now, it will be reduced to just 19 to 20 kilometers.
- For 2021, Oxford Economics revises India’s GDP to 10.2% The global forecasting firm Oxford Economics has revised India’s economic growth projection for the Calendar year 2021 to 10.2 percent, compared to previous estimate of 8.8%. The reason for the upward revision is the receding COVID-19 risks and the shift in the monetary policy outlook. Oxford Economics is headquartered in Oxford, United Kingdom and has 6 office locations across 5 countries. It provides global forecasts and analysis to predict and manage economic risk.
- On ‘COVID-19 Management’, India hosts online workshop On 10th February 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a Workshop ‘on COVID-19 Management: Experience, Good Practices and Way Forward’ with nearly 10 Neighboring Countries. India hosted a Secretary-level virtual meeting on COVID-19 management with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Countries. SAARC nations, including Pakistan, participated in the workshop. Modi called for making a regional air ambulance agreement among neighbouring countries for ‘Medical Contingencies”.
- On Mars, NASA’s Perseverance Rover Landed On 18th February 2021. The science rover Perseverance of NASA landed on the Red Planet (MARS). This rover is the most advanced astrobiology laboratory that has been ever sent another planet. It will firstly search the traces of ancient microbial life on the Planet. The rover sailed through space for nearly seven months. It covered the distance of 293 million miles or 472 million km before entering to the Martian atmosphere.
- In Kerela, ‘Snakepedia’ mobile application launched A team of Scientists, doctors and photographers in Kerela have launched a mobile application named “Snakepedia”, that will present all relevant information on snakes, to help the public as well as doctors in treating snake bites. The android mobile application documents information on snakes with the help of pictures, infographics and podcasts and analyses its first aid, treatment, myths and superstitions. The main aim of the application is to help the public identify snakes, avail proper treatment on time for snakebites, bust myths about snakes, and protect snakes as well as snakebite victims.
- NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting to be chaired by PM On 20th February 2021, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will chair NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting. During the meeting, issues with respect to agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure and human resource development will be discussed. This will be the 6th meeting of the Governing Council. The meeting will be joined by Ladakh for the first time. Jammu and Kashmir will also participate as a Union Territory this year. Other UTs which are headed by the administrators will also join the meeting.
- FAITH organized 3rd India Tourism Mart On 18th February 2021, the 3rd India Tourism Mart was organized It was addressed by the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan. The event was organized by the Federation of Associations in India Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) through video conferencing. The event was participated by over 250 delegates from 60 countries virtually. It will be held from 18th February 2021 to 20th February 2021. The event will bring together a mix of right buyers from world and right exhibitors from India. The 3rd India Tourism Mart is significant as it is being organized at a time when the world is emerging from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
- Hyderabad becomes Tree City of the World 2020 The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Arbor Day Foundation have recently organized Hyderabad as a 2020 Tree City of World. Hyderabad was selected for the recognition following its commitment to grow and maintain the urban forests. This recognition was a testament for city’s sustained and institutional efforts of planting, nurturing and celebrating trees. It also marks the development of the urban and peri-urban forestry actions, projects besides the strategic planning & commitment of building healthy city. Hyderabad got the recognition in the second year of the program organized by the foundation.

- Two new iron ore mines of Odisha inaugurated by Prahlad Joshi On 18th February 2021, Union Minister for mines, Prahlad Joshi and Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, jointly inaugurated the production in two new iron ore mines of Odisha namely Jiling-Langlota Iron ore Block and Guali Iron Ore Block. Both the mines have production capacity of 15 lakh tonnes per month and they posses approximately 275 million tonnes of consolidated iron ore reserves.
