- Ethanol Production Promotion Policy of Bihar Bihar has become the first state of the country to have its own ethanol policy called Ethanol Production Promotion Policy 2021. This policy was approved by the Central Government in December 2020 in consonance with National Policy of Biofuels, 2018 and subsequently by National Biofuel Co-ordination Committee. The ethanol promotion policy would pave the way for making Bihar an ethanol hub and investors’ coveted destination.
- Gap between 2 Doses of Covishield between four and Eight weeks increased by Centre Centre has written to States and Union Territories to increase the interval between two doses of COVISHIELD to 4 to 8 weeks based on recommendation of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization, NTAGI and National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19, NEGVAC. This decision of revised time interval between two doses is applicable only to COVISHIELD and not to COVAXIN Vaccine.

- India’s first government run animal ambulance network to be launched by Andhra Pradesh The state government Andhra Pradesh has decided to set up “India’s first government run ambulance network” for animals. This decision was taken in order to further boost the animal husbandry and veterinary sector in the state. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, has made this ambulance network as one of its main missions in order to help in reaching out to the distressed animals to provide them proper animal healthcare. The Animal Husbandry Department was directed to set up one Mobile Ambulance Veterinary Clinic at each of the assembly constituency.
- On 23rd March, Martyrs Day is observed Every year, On 23rd March, Martyrs Day (Shaheed Diwas or Sarvodaya Day) is observed to pay tribute on death anniversary of the freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru, who laid their lives for the freedom of India. It was on 23rd March in 1931, in Lahore (Pakistan), that these three were hanged to death for assassinating John Saunders, a British Police office in 1928. They had mistook him for British police superintendent James Scott, who had ordered lathi charge, which eventually led to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai.
- On 23rd March, World Meteorological Day is celebrated The World Meteorological Day is celebrated every year on 23rd March. It commemorates the date of the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization in 23rd March 1950. The day also highlights the contribution that the National Meteorological and Hydro-logical Services make to the safety and well-being of the society. The theme of the World Meteorological Day 2021 is “The Ocean, our Climate and Weather”.
- Global Home Price Index Q4 2020 India has slipped by 12 spots, to rank at 56th place in the “Global House Price Index Q4 2020” released by property consultant Knight Frank. The country reported a decline of 3.6% year-on-year in home prices, to finish last in the fourth and last quarter ending December 2020. It ranked 43rd in the same quarter of the previous fiscal. India was the weakest-performing country in the fourth quarter of the fiscal 2020. Turkey was the leading country in the global ranking with home prices up by 30.3% year-on-year.
- Drinking age in New Delhi reduced to 21 from 25 Delhi government reduced the drinking age in New Delhi to 21, which was earlier fixed at 25 and prompted a large number of customers to move to NCR towns for liquor. The new excise policy on liquor also includes equitable distribution of liquor because currently some areas of Delhi have higher concentration of liquor shops than others.
- Districts to be ranked on Export Competitiveness The Commerce Ministry has said that, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) will be assisting the states and union territories in order to prepare the “Annual Export Ranking Index” of different districts. The index would be ranking each district on the export competitiveness. The Union government is working on ‘developing districts as export hubs’ in order to decentralize the export promotion activity.
- DFI to get direct access to RBI funding facilities On 22nd March 2021, the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development Bill, 2021 introduced in the Lok Sabha. Under the Bill, the government will soon set up a “National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development”. This bank will also get government guarantee support as well as the direct access to liquidity from the apex bank RBI with the objective of kick-start infrastructure financing in the country. The bill seeks to set up the government backed Development Finance Institution (DFI).
