  1. For initial supply of indigenously developed Laser Dazzlers, BEL and Indian Navy signed pact The Indian Navy has signed a contract with the Bharat Electronics Limited, to procure Light Application by Stimulated Emission of Radiation Dazzlers. Initially, agreement has been signed for 20 Laser Dazzlers. The Laser Dazzler technology has been developed by Defence Research and Development Organization and would be manufactured by BEL, Pune plant.
  2. Umesh Sinha appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner The Union Government has appointed Umesh Sinha as the deputy election commissioner in the Election Commission of India. Sinha, a 1986-batch IAS officer (retired) of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was the secretary general in the commission prior to this.He has been appointed on contract basis for a period of six months from 1st January 2021 to 30th June 2021.
  3. Buta Singh Passed Away Former Union Minister and senior Rajasthan Congress leader Buta Singh has passed away. He was 86. The veteran politician Buta Singh served as Home Minister of India in the Rajiv Gandhi Government from 1986 t0 1989. He had also served as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. Buta Singh was a four-time MP from Jalore-Sirohi Lok Sabha constituency.
  4. Expert Panel gives go ahead for COVISHIELD On 2nd January 2021, the expert panel sent COVISHIELD vaccine for approval by the Drugs Controller General of India. The committee also recommended COVAXIN for restricted use in an emergency situation subject to multiple regulatory conditions. The Subject Expert Committee operates under the central drugs standard control organization.
  5. Pakistan Government to buy houses of Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar in Peshawar On 2nd January 2021, the Pakistan Government approved the release of 2.35 crore rupees to purchase the ancestral houses of Bollywood actors Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar located in Peshawar. These houses are to be converted into Museum after procurement.
