MECON Limited, formerly known as Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants Limited. It is working under the Government of India. MECON is a Public Sector Undertaking.
At starting It began in 1959 as the Central Engineering and Designing Bureau (CEDB) of the Hindustan Steel Limited (HSL). It is the first public sector steel company.
After that, it grew as a Metallurgical and Engineering Consultant (MECON), a subsidiary of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in 1973.
In the year 1973, it became an autonomous company reporting to the Ministry of Steel in The Foundation of MECON is 01st April 1973.
